Hi there!

So, first before I began this article, I want to do a check-in with you. How are you doing? How is everything going for you? How are you, REALLY (do share in the comments so we can be a collective network and help each other THRIVE)?

I will be very honest with you, lately I have had some interesting things to occur within the last couple of months where I wanted nothing more than for someone else—anyone else—to ask me how I’m doing because I’m the type to not share some of my struggles. And unfortunately in this world we live in, most people don’t seem interested in asking us deeper questions despite what we might tell them about our personal lives when asked direct questions by strangers…and sometimes even when we’re not asked these things directly!

With that being said, please do a temperature check of yourself and others to just CHECK-IN with them, because you never know what someone is going through.

Now, for today’s post I wanted to talk about how the difficulties of life can definitely whisper to us in various ways. It is for sure filled with surprises, but also it truly whispers to us — but are we listening!

Life leaves clues and send us so many messages as we go along our various journeys. And when we listen to it, we can truly hear and see what it is telling us. Specifically, when it comes to difficulties, challenges, obstacles, and those little bumps in the road.

But, when you are truly connected to your surroundings and the wholeness of who you are, those difficulties can definitely come with some small whispers first. Most times, they don’t shoutout to you or yell at you to get ready. They don’t come and tap you on the shoulder. They don’t run in front of you with a sign that says, “hey you, do you see me, here I come!”

However, they will whisper to you in some form or fashion. Those whispers can be somewhat quietly with a sweet voice that gently taps us, or a tugging in our hearts that warns us softly with a feeling that you know your inner spirit is speaking to you (for me that is my Helper – The Holy Spirit)…

But, when we hear about or are faced with difficulties, we often think of them as coming with a bang noise. But you know in life, that’s not always the case. They can come from many sources and it may take a while to realize you’re in difficulty — when you are distracted by the noise of the world and being busyness of life.

And, difficulties can come out of nowhere. They can occur when things are going well, and they can be quite subtle at first. You may not even notice the difficulty until it has already begun to take root in your mind, in a relationship, on your job, or even in your business.

It is no surprise that we all experience difficulties in our lives, and these difficulties can come in many forms, some in the disguises that can hit us like a brick. Some from external factors (someone is ugly to you in traffic) to internal factors (you are in a relationship that has surprising issues). And some difficulties are temporary; others are permanent. Also, sometimes we simply aren’t aware of how much of a struggle we are actually facing until someone asks us, “How are things going?”

Then that little light goes off in your mind that begins to speak to you how you have ignored the whispers from inside that hare been saying “you are not ok!” You have been just moving in tandem because it was easier to ignore it than to acknowledge the truth of the “whisper.”

Well, let me tell you from experience that it is best to not ignore the “whispers” and to truly put them in perspective of what they truly are. They are your warning signs to take action and be very mindful. This is when you can do a little exercise that I implemented many years ago called SAPA (STOP, ASSESS, PAUSE, and ACT).

The goal of SAPA is to stop what you are doing, assess your feelings, and pause all distractions and the noise of the world to check-in with yourself holistically. It is an emotional mindfulness and wellness activity, where you are carving out time to ask yourself how you’re doing. Doing this allows you to sort out your emotions, assess your physical and emotional needs, what are your threats, and look deeper inside to see where you can make some adjustments. It also aids in helping you making an intentional plan on how to move forward. Give it try each day, so you can be more connected to yourself and more sensitive to all the “whispers” that come your way.

Lastly, know that with every difficulty you encounter it is a reflection of your response to it (this is where the SAPA exercise is important). The way you choose to respond to difficulties shows who you are, and that’s what matters most.

The goal is to handle difficulties in a positive and mindful way. You do this by taking intentional planned-out actions and making choices that show your true character. If you don’t take action or make any kind of choice at all (like when life just happens to us), then you will miss the lessons you need to learn. And you will not get the chance to see who you really are, because your actions won’t reveal anything about you at all! This is why it’s so important for you to not only choose the right path but also make sure that each step you take leads you closer towards success instead of away from it…

Your response to difficulties shows who you are, what you are made of, and how you have grown in life. It helps you navigate through this journey of life, with more control and building your internal muscles to help you become more fully present in the moment, aware of where you are and what you’re doing, and to hear those “whispers” that life gives us.

Now, go out each day with a mission driven mindset, because you have a POWERFUL PURPOSE to live in this life. Live it with your purpose, on purpose, and write a new page in your story each day. And remember to not give your pen to anyone to write YOUR STORY!

Best,

-Dr. Z
